5 Things: Our clash with the Wanderers

We’re on the road to the Wanderers, as we head to Spotless Stadium for a Friday night clash.

It’s a big week for Ernie Merrick’s side, so here’s everything you need to know as we head out West.

Fighting fight

There’ll be a few headaches for Ernie Merrick this week as he looks to finalise his squad – and his starting XI – for Friday night.

Matt Ridenton has trained strongly and is on the return from a minor calf strain and Ben Kantarovski is at full fitness.

With strong performances from Nick Cowburn in recent weeks, there are plenty of options for the makeup of the midfield.

Johnny Koutroumbis is also well and truly on the return to full fitness and is itching to return to play.

Location, location, location

The Wanderers continue to wander while their new home at Parramatta is under construction.

We return to Spotless for the third time, with the previous two matches resulting in draws.

Last year’s fixture produced plenty of excitement and drama, with Andrew Nabbout and Dimi Petratos both netting worldies – will we see more spectacular goals this Friday?

Milestone men

A couple of veterans will climb their way up the pecking order of Club appearances this weekend, with Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Nigel Boogaard moving to 4th and 17th on the all-time list.

Topor-Stanley has been a consistent performer is his second stint with the Jets, not missing a match in the 2017/18 season.

Boogaard already owns the record for most appearances as captain and will continue to climb the list this year and next.

First half flyers

We came home with a wet sail against the Sky Blues, but it’s been our first halves that have been statistically most impressive over the opening rounds.

We’re well ahead of the competition in shots made in the opening half, while we sit second overall – with the Wanderers currently occupying top spot.

Attacking flair

While the Jets are now renowned for their attacking prowess, the Wanderers have shown that they’ll be keen to get on the attack.

Alexander Baumjohann has impressed in midfield, while Bruce Kamau and Oriol Riera have been menacing in the forward line.

With both teams looking to get forward it could be a busy night for both defences.

The Jets get Round 5 of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season started on Friday, 23 November at Spotless Stadium. Kick-off is at 7:50pm (ADST), with the match broadcast live on Fox Sports and the MyFootball App.
