Newcastle Jets are delighted to confirm the signing of striker, Roy O’Donovan, on an 18-month deal.

The deadline day deal sees the Irishman, who is Newcastle’s equal-second best goalscorer with 20 goals in 35 appearances, return to the Hunter after departing for Brisbane at the end of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

With six goals to his name in 12 appearances in the Hyundai A-League with Brisbane Roar so far this season, the 34-year-old joins the Jets fit and ready to fire.

While still in the Hunter last season, O’Donovan bagged 11 goals in 19 appearances for Newcastle. The previous season, his first in Jets colours, the attacker scored 9 goals in 16 appearances.

Football Operations Manager, Joel Griffiths, lauded the return of the lethal striker.

“We’re delighted to see Roy back in the red and blue and can’t wait to get him back on the ground in Newcastle,” Griffiths said.

“He’s a proven goalscorer in this competition over a long period of time at different clubs, not to mention a fantastic influence and good person to have around the Club.

“To have him back on board is a big get for us, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the side for the rest of this season and next.”

O’Donovan will not be available for Saturday 1 February’s clash with Western United, but will be available for selection for the Round 18 #F3Derby at McDonald Jones Stadium.
