Academy: Boys bring home choccies at Easter

It was an undefeated Easter weekend around the grounds for our Academy boys against Lambton Jaffas and Hamilton Olympic.

The girls struggled against Northern Tigers on Easter Monday at home, but there were a few results to write home about.

Here’s this week’s Academy wrap.

Boys

Due to a lack of players, the U/12 Boys didn’t get onto the park against the Lambton Jaffas U/13s with that match to be replayed in a little over a fortnight.

The U/13s did get on however, and did well – running out 7-0 winners over their Lambton U/14 Boys counterparts.

Things were tighter in the following fixture, but the U/14 Jets did just enough to edge out a 2-1 win over the Jaffas U/15s.

In the U/16s competition, the young U/15 Jets managed a 1-1 draw in the afternoon’s final match at Lambton. It was enough to see them maintain their position atop the ladder in that division.

The senior boys played on Saturday afternoon at Hamilton, with largely good results. Daniel McBreen’s U/16s got the day off to a good start for Newcastle fans with a dominant 4-0 win over Hamilton’s U/18s.

The U/18s boys also got up, winning out 3-1 while the U/20s boys couldn’t complete the clean sweep – going down 2-0 to a strong Hamilton Olympic first grade side.

Girls

At home on Easter Monday, the morning got off to a solid enough start with the U/13s girls playing out a 1-1 draw with the Northern Tigers U/14s side.

The young U/14s picked up the only win of the day for the Girls, beating out their U/15s counterparts 4-1.

That scoreline was reversed in the following match as the U/15s Jets fell to the Tigers U/17s side, while the U/17s girls also fell by the same 4-1 scoreline to the Northern Tigers Reserve side.

In the first grade fixture, the Jets U/19s girls took an early lead but eventually fell 2-1 to the Northern Tigers who climbed into first place with the victory.
