Academy: Boys at Weston and girls at Illawarra

Washouts prevented the senior boys from taking the pitch on Saturday, but nine games featuring Academy sides still took place over the weekend.

There were some big wins around the place too, along a pair of hard-fought defeats, and three young Jets sides now sit atop their respective ladders.

Here’s how our academy sides did this weekend, with the boys against Weston Bears in the NPL Northern NSW and the girls up against Illawarra Stingrays in the NPL NSW Women’s.

Boys

Continuing their spectacular run of recent form, the Newcastle Jets U/12s stormed to a huge 10-0 win over a Weston Bears U/13s side.

Jayden Jensen and Jesse Hill both scored hat-tricks in the victory, which maintained the Jets’ place atop the ladder with five wins in five games and a goal difference of +33.

The U/13s boys stayed inside the top four with a 4-1 win over Weston U/14s, while the U/14s boys stormed home to a huge 7-0 win in the U/15s competition with Oscar Crakanthorp, Isaac Collins, and Ethan Gilmore each bagging a brace.

The boys were unable to complete a Weston clean sweep however, with the U/15s falling to their first defeat of the season. The Bears U/16s side won out 3-1.

Girls

A massive win for our U/13s has propelled the side from fifth to second, and just a point off top spot after four games played.

The 6-1 victory over Illawarra Stingrays featured a whopping FIVE goals to Josie Allan – who then backed up for the U/14s side, and scored another in their 2-0 win which sees them remain top of the U/15s ladder.

The U/15s edged closer to the top four of the U/17s division after a big 5-1 win over Illawarra, thanks to a double from Paige Abberfield.

In the Reserves competition, the U/17s got up 5-2 to move within a win of the top four while the U/19s went down 4-2 in a first-grade thriller.
