With the Westfield W-League in their sights, this weekend our Emerging Jets sides will take to the pitch in the NPL NSW Women’s competition for the first time this season.

After a mixed bag of results in what is a very tough Sydney competition last season, the five Newcastle sides will be looking to prove themselves in 2019.

Meet our Emerging Jets sides, and their coaches, ahead of Sunday’s season opener away to NWS Koalas.

U/13 Girls

The U/13s side just missed out on the finals last season, but this season it’s a squad new to the NPL NSW Women’s competition under the watchful eye of Daniel Campbell and they’ll be looking to finish in that top four.

A regional and state-level footballer in his playing days, Campbell has coached a number of young teams throughout Northern NSW.

He’s worked with both boys and girls team – coaching Emerging Jets SAP teams, sides at the FFA Futsal Nationals, as well as the U/13 Girls side previously.

Given it’s the side’s first foray into the NPL NSW Women’s competition, they’ll be hoping to find their bearings quickly and crack into finals contention.

Goalkeepers: Anabella THORNTON, Grace KINGETT
Defenders: Sara KNOWLES, Claire ADAMS, Emma O’HAGAN, Chelsea RITCHIE, Charlie NORTON, Annika HORVAT, Sadie BRIDGES
Midfielders:Ruby DANILUCK, Alisha INGREY, Bella LEWSAM, Keira KNIPE, Zoe DALY

U/14 Girls

After cracking the finals of the U/15s competition last season, this year’s U/14s side under the tutelage of Martin Slade will be looking to replicate their predecessor’s successes.

Slade is entering his fourth season coaching among the Newcastle Jets ranks, with three seasons under his belt coaching Emerging Jets groups.

With experience coaching junior Jets from ages 9 through 11, Slade has also assisted with the U/13s TSP group throughout Northern NSW.

The U/14s side finished in third place and a preliminary final penalty shoot-out exit last season in the U/15s competition, and this talented cohort will be looking to replicate and build on that success.

Goalkeeper: Halle EICK
Defenders: Tara COUSINS, Amber FORD, Saffron GRASS, Zoe KARIPIDIS, Gabby TZAROS
Midfielders: Chloe WALANDOUW, Lara GOOCH, Mika MAROLLY

U/15 Girls

Playing up two years in the NPL NSW Women’s U/17s, Chad Dobson will lead the U/15 Girls this season in what’s sure to be a tough competition.

He began coaching as a 27-year-old with the Weston Bears reserve grade team in the NPL Northern NSW, before moving into Youth team coaching at Maitland, Northern NSW Metro, and Weston.

Dobson then moved into the Emerging Jets SAP program, before stepping into his role as the U/15 Girls coach for the first time this season.

After an eighth-place finish in the competition last season and a goal differential of just -1 for the U/15s side, this year’s crew will be looking to build on that and have success in the competition.

Goalkeepers: Layla WHYTE
Defenders: Gemma DUFFIN, Jorja BROWN, Kimberly TRAPPETT, Amy PARKINSON, Nikiesha YONUG, Brianna SAUNDERS, Jarrah STUART
Midfielders:Chloe TAVARES, Ava LIDDEN, Paige ABBERFIELD

U/17 Girls

With a number of Young Matildas representatives in their ranks, the U/17 girls will play in the NPL NSW Women’s Reserves competition and are coached by Nic Pepper.

The former Jets Youth player and Australian Schoolboys representative first made the step into coaching with Miniroos’ sides as a 14-year-old in Sydney.

Pepper has also spent time directing traffic at NEWFM Northern League One side, New Lambton. He’s coached U/14s through to U/17s teams at the club, and was the technical director for development programs there last season.

After finishing in ninth place last season in the Reserves competition, the U/17s will look to tighten up at the back and do their best in 2019.

Goalkeepers: Tiahna ROBERTSON, Ruby JONES
Defenders: Denver WILLIAMS, Leah O’HAGAN, Leia PUXTY, Zoe BURNLEY, Jannali HUNTER, Teagan DOUGLAS
Midfielders: Bella CARLISLE, Te Reremoana WALKER, Emma BATES, Josie MORLEY, Yasmin POPOVIC

U/19 Girls

Playing in the NPL NSW Women’s First Grade competition, the U/19 girls are coached by Jets W-League assistant coach, Ash Wilson.

A NSW Schoolgirls representative in her playing days, Wilson has been a coach of the women’s game since 2012 when she took charge of Adamstown in the WPL for three seasons.

She’s been a coach of the NSW CHS side for the past five years, football co-ordinator at Hunter Sports High since 2012, and in charge of young Jets sides since 2015.

The hope will be for the side’s position to improve this season – up against some immensely tough opposition in the Sydney competition, the side finished 11th of 12 in 2018.
