The Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce the signing of winger, Kwabena Appiah until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

A free agent since departing K-League club, Incheon United in January, Appiah has been training with the Jets since returning to Australia.

While in Korea for the duration of 2018, the attacker made 27 appearances across the league and cup competitions.

The former Central Coast Mariners and Western Sydney Wanderers man has ample experience in the Hyundai A-League too, with 78 appearances to his name.

16 of those Hyundai A-League matches came at Wellington Phoenix, where Appiah played under Ernie Merrick during the Scotsman’s time in New Zealand.

His signing will provide depth for Ernie Merrick’s squad, primarily covering the long-term lay-off of Jason Hoffman.

“Kwabena is a good signing for us and we’re happy to have him on board for the remainder of the season,” Merrick said.

“He’s got great speed and the ability to get in behind defences, which is something I look for in players who operate in the final third.

“His signing will provide us with some depth given the injury to Jason.”

After putting pen to paper earlier this week, Appiah said he was thrilled to have his future secured.

“I’ve been training here for a few weeks now and I’m happy to have signed on with the Jets,” Appiah said.

“Ernie has the boys playing a nice style of football, based around moving the ball quickly and getting forward, and I think it’s a style I’m suited to.

“I’m glad to be back in Australia and am keen to put my best foot forward as the side pushes for a spot in the finals.”

Appiah will be available for selection for the Club’s Round 22 clash with the Central Coast Mariners.
