Newcastle Jets Senior Assistant Coach Jean-Paul de Marigny provides an exclusive insight into day one of the club’s pre-season tour around Northern New South Wales.
Day 1 of #JETSTOUR 2015 is complete…and what an eventful day it was!
The team gathered in Newcastle on Monday at 7:30am, and just 15 minutes later were on the road bound for Taree.
We trained in Taree directly across from the iconic ‘Big Oyster’, with a handful of locals plus FOX SPORTS personalities Andy Harper & Mike Cockerill watching on.
After lunch at ‘The Sicilian Restaurant’ on Victoria Street we split into groups and got ourselves into the community.
Two teams of four headed to Greater Building Society branches in Taree and Port Macquarie, another visited McDonald’s Taree, while Scott Miller, Mitchell Murphy, Ben Kantarovski & Lee Ki-je surprised avid Jets Member Gavin Austin who is a teacher at Wingham High School!
My group went to Wayne Richards Park in Port Macquarie where we helped train some of Football Mid North Coast’s (FMNC) representative teams. It was a great afternoon and there was definitely some top talent on display!
Guests from Taree Auto Group and FMNC joined us for dinner at our team Hotel, so the gaffer demanded that the boys put on a show to go with their meal.
As is tradition in many football clubs, some of our new players had to sing a song for the audience.
Nigel Boogaard selected who was up on Monday, with Labinot Haliti, Josh Barresi and Lachlan Jackson chosen to star for the club’s guests.
Labi performed a rousing rendition of ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ by R. Kelly, before Josh sent the room into overdrive with a great version of Mario’s ‘Let Me Love You’. Lachlan rounded out the entertainment with a super performance of Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’.
Tomorrow it’s off to Coffs Harbour for day 2 of the tour! Our list of public appearances can be found here – hopefully we’ll see you in Coffs!
