BLOG: Mark Birighitti reviews #JETSTOUR day two

Newcastle Jets Senior Assistant Coach Jean-Paul de Marigny got the #JETSTOUR blogs rolling on Monday, and now it’s my turn to fill in our fans with what we’ve been up to in Northern New South Wales.

Like day one of the Tour, day two was busy, but also rewarding for the boys and club.

After breakfast in Port Macquarie we boarded our coach and Ron our driver got us safely to Coffs Harbour. We enjoyed lunch at the Opal Cove Resort along with representatives from Coffs Harbour City Council, as well as Slater and Gordon Lawyers – thanks to both parties for supporting our trip!

Straight after lunch we changed into our new BLK training gear before jumping back on the bus to head to Coffs Harbour International Stadium. Arriving at the Stadium brought back some great personal memories for me – I fondly recall coming to Coffs when I was a teenager playing for Western Australia in the national titles. Great times!

Our Tuesday training surface was in fantastic condition, enabling the coaches to put us through a high intensity session. As a group we are really enjoying training, and are continuing to sharpen our focus on our Westfield FFA Cup clash with Perth Glory in August.

While the majority of the squad stayed at the Stadium after training for a kick about with some local kids, Andy Brennan and I set off for a visit to the Children’s Ward at Coffs Harbour Hospital. Slater and Gordon Lawyers support our ‘Jet Well’ program at John Hunter Children’s Hospital in Newcastle, so we thought it would be a good idea to extend the program to Coffs. It was nice to put some smiles on some kids’ faces!

With an hour to fill in before we met up with the team at Hogs Breath Café for dinner, Andy and I took the opportunity to visit a Coffs Harbour icon – the Big Banana. Everyone knows the Big Banana!

Tomorrow it’s inland to Armidale where we’ll settle for three nights. Thanks to everyone who has helped us on #JETSTOUR so far!
