Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets mid-season signing Zenon Caravella says he has settled in well after his first full week at his new club.

Caravella joined the Jets last Wednesday after being released by Adelaide United and had the opportunity to get to know his new teammates better thanks to the Jets- Round 18 match against the Phoenix in Wellington.

“It-s been pretty good so far, I got a nice reception from the boys and I-m enjoying my time here in Newcastle,” Caravella said.

“It was a long trip to Wellington and I had a lot of time to talk to a few of the players and I enjoyed it.”

The 29-year-old came on as an 83rd minute substitute against the Phoenix and helped the Jets secure a 1-1 draw, which he believes could be an important result in helping shape the remainder of the Jets- season.

“I enjoyed the game, I always love to play, so it was a good time to come on and I think it was a great result to get a point over there,” Caravella said.

“It should be a great building block for us. It-s been a long time since any points were won over there by us, so it should give us a lot of confidence going into the Sydney game this weekend.”

The return of Ruben Zadkovich from suspension gives the Jets further options in the centre of midfield and Caravella believes the competition for places will ultimately benefit the entire squad.

“Obviously of course I-ve come here to play and I want to play, but competition for spots is a great thing for the whole team, so we-ll just see how it goes,” he said.

Caravella is likely to make his second appearance for the Jets in Saturday-s decisive match against Sydney FC and he said the Jets are well aware of the importance of the fixture.

“It-s a very close table at the moment and I don-t think you really need any special preparation,” he said.

“You just need to know that every game at this time of the year really counts and a win can push you right up there again.”

Jets fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets early to secure the best seats for Saturday-s blockbuster clash.
