After our longer than usual pre-season we couldn’t have been more delighted with the result from Round 1 at Ausgrid Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After our longer than usual pre-season we couldn’t have been more delighted with the result from Round 1 at Ausgrid Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The game day against Melbourne Heart had it all; plenty of goals, an exciting finish and a vocal crowd.

With Ryan Grittiths scoring two goals and a 2-all scoreline at full time, it was over to Byun to score the winning goal in injury time for a thrilling Jets win.

After the difficult week at Jets HQ, we were grateful to all the Members and fans who came along to the game. Our Members looking particularly great in all their red caps and scarves. Thank you to 12,456 in attendance, the team appreciated you being there and cheering them on.

A few of the players unveiled the new strip on the eve of the game and we have since received endless positive feedback. In the words of the Squadron, our colours may change, fans are forever.

The 16 players interim coach Craig Deans has selected to take across to Wellington are looking forward to their next challenge, Sunday-s game against Wellington Phoenix. The team travel across the Tasman today and even though we are up against some tough competition and have had little success in Wellington previously, I am confident that we will perform strongly.

Yesterday we reached our target of 10,000 Member, this is a great achievement for our Club and really highlights that Newcastle and the Hunter are getting behind their sporting teams.

With the signing of Emily Van Egmond this week, we have now finalised our W-League team. Clayton Zane and Joey Peters have worked tirelessly to secure high calibre players and I look forward to seeing this team come together for their first game on Saturday October 29.

Our Youth League team is also coming along nicely and are set to play their first game next Friday against Central Coast. I encourage you to go along to Pluim Park and support our talented young players.

I want to wish Akuila Uate and our Australian team all the best for Sunday-s Rugby League Test Match against New Zealand. What a thrill for Newcastle to have such a big sporting event held at our very own Ausgrid Stadium.

Enjoy this weekends game in Wellington and we look forward to seeing you back at Ausgrid Stadium next Saturday when we take on the Central Coast Mariners.
