The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets coaching staff have highlighted the performance of midfielder Zenon Caravella for this week-s ‘Coaches Choice-.

Each week the Newcastle Jets coaching staff select one player who they believe played an important role in the previous weekend-s game.

The Coaches Choice is not necessarily be the man of the match, but rather a player who has caught the eye of the Jets coaching staff with certain aspects of their performance.

Jets head coach Gary van Egmond said Caravella was a shining light for the Jets in their 1-1 draw against Adelaide United last Friday.

“Zenon-s been great for us since he came here from Adelaide and he-s exactly what we needed,” Caravella said.

“He-s a midfielder who gets on the ball, keeps possession well and doesn-t turn it over.

“His pass completion rate is very, very high and he has a good work rate.

“He-s a leader in the way that he plays and the type of person he is. He-s a family man, very family orientated.

“He-s been fantastic for us and we-re very happy with him.”

The clash with the Reds was Caravella-s first game back after missing the Jets- previous two outings with a hamstring injury.

The 30-year-old said he was pleased with his performance and pulled up well after the match.

“I felt good. It was a good to get back out on the park and I thought it was a good team performance, but obviously disappointing not to get all three points,” Caravella said.

“Thankfully for us, other results went our way over the weekend and hopefully the same thing can happen this weekend.”

Caravella has made seven appearances for the Jets since joining the club in late January, but said he already feels at home in his new surroundings.

“I didn-t expect to settle as quickly as I did,” Caravella said.

“I guess I put that down to my teammates who have really welcomed me and made me feel part of the team.

“When you-re settled, you can play your best football and I feel like I-ve been given that opportunity here.”
