Port Stephens football fans will have a chance to meet and gain skills from Newcastle Jets players and coaches at Tomaree Sports Complex Nelson Bay on Monday 26 October thanks to the Jets and its major community partner, Greater Building Society.
The Greater’s Salamander Bay branch manager Ryan Palmer said the visit is the first of four ‘Jets: Play’ clinics to be held throughout Hunter during the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season.
The free clinic is now fully subscribed, meaning some 180 kids aged between six and 12 will be involved with coaching activities and games.
At the end of the clinic there will be the opportunity for autographs and photographs, plus a free sausage sizzle and giveaways.
Mr Palmer explained that there will also be an opportunity for fans, young and old, to meet some of the players at The Greater’s Salamander Bay branch prior to the clinic (3.30pm to 4.30pm).
Indeed, it has now been confirmed that Jets midfielders Ben Kantarovski and Mitch Cooper, plus young custodian Blake Tuxford will be at the afternoon branch appearance.
“Kids can meet Ben, Mitch and Blake on the way home from school at The Greater’s Salamander Bay Shopping Centre branch,” Mr Palmer said.
“The Greater is helping the Newcastle Jets to better connect with fans in Port Stephens and across the Hunter to build a stronger football club for our region,” he said.
‘Jets: Play’ is part of the Club’s overarching ‘Jets: Connect’ community program fuelled by the Greater Building Society. The program also includes the ‘Jets: Learn’ which will see Jets’ players make a minimum of 30 visits to local Hunter primary schools for a one hour coaching session.
