COUNTDOWN: 40 days to go!

It’s now just 40 days until the start of our Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season.

The club has compiled a historical 30 to 1 Jets countdown to get you fired up for the new season when the team takes on Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium in New Zealand in round 1.

To show supporters what they can expect when the countdown commences, today Luke Robbs has identified one of the things that the number 40 represents in our history.

His findings possess a Dutch flavour.

In the ten seasons of the Hyundai A-League the Jets have had international players from all over the globe spend time in the Hunter.

The two Dutch players to have played at the club – Donny de Groot and Kew Jaliens – made 40 Hyundai A-League appearances for the Jets between them.

In 2009 striker Donny de Groot made four Hyundai A-League appearances for the Jets, with his debut coming in a 1-1 draw against Melbourne Victory. de Groot returned home to the Netherlands in 2010.

Three years later former Dutch national teamer Jaliens arrived in Newcastle after making the switch from Polish heavyweights Wisla Krakow. In his time at Hunter Stadium Jaliens made 36 A-League appearances for the Jets and scored three goals.
