The last two weeks have flown past, with the boys showing their determination and loyalty to all at the Club, members and staff alike.
Heading into the game against Wellington on the weekend the team-s spirits were high even though the stats, on paper, were not in our favour.
It was a tough game against the Phoenix and I know all of the players are disappointed that we didn-t come away with at least one point. But that-s not to say we didn-t have any stand out moments.
Tarek Elrich was first to show the Jets spirit on the field, with Ben Kennedy and Ben Kantarovski also attempting to get our side on the score board. It was great to see, and hear, the support of those who made the trip to watch the game. I want them to know how much it meant to all of us, we only wish their trip could have been celebrated a win.
The Phoenix traditionally play well at home and after their draw last week they were hungry to get some points on the ladder to kick off their season tally.
So with Round Two behind us we have a fair bit to review this week. The team will have some hard work to get through in preparation for the clash that is the F3 Derby against the Central Coast Mariners.
The Mariners are yet to come away with a win during the start of the season, going down against the Roar and drawing with United, but the local derby can be a game unto its own with the long standing history of fierce rivalry between both clubs.
Their coach, Graham Arnold, still believes they are finding their feet, along with many other clubs, but we all know that they never go down without a fight and this means that we need to be in form when we meet them at Ausgrid Stadium this Sunday.
It is a highlight game for any Jets or Mariners fan, but I hope that all 10,000 Newcastle Jets members turn out to cheer our boys to victory – it makes all the difference.
