As Newcastle Jets prepare for the final round of the 2014/15 campaign this Friday against Brisbane Roar, we take a look at what some may describe as a fixture which goes against the normal conventions of “home ground advantage”.

Oddly enough, since the commencement of the Hyundai A-League both the Jets and Roar have better records at their opponent’s home ground than their own. That’s a trend which has certainly been followed in the two meetings at Hunter Stadium this year, with Brisbane taking all three points both times.

The Jets’ ‘Win-Draw-Loss’ record at Suncorp Stadium currently stands at 9-2-2. Moreover, the team have only ever conceded five goals at Suncorp, but have managed to score 16 in 16 matches. In fact, the Jets haven’t conceded a goal at the venue since December 2012!

Last weekend’s result saw a few records set for Newcastle Jets as a team, and individually.

  • Andrew Hoole scored his first goal for the club. He joins Nick Carle, Mark Milligan and Lee Ki-Je to get off the mark for the Jets from the penalty spot.
  • It was the first time the Jets have scored three goals in a match this season.
  • Edson Montano became the first player to score in consecutive matches for the club this season to take him to five goals overall for the campaign.
  • It was the fifth time the Jets have conceded four or more goals in a season, the most on record.

Finally, in his last appearance for the club Andrew Hoole will make his 50th Hyundai A-League appearance. Andrew’s debut was handed to him by then coach Gary van Egmond against this week’s opponents, Brisbane Roar, at Hunter Stadium in Round 16 of the 2012/13 campaign. That day Hoole played the full 90 minutes. Since then he has made 35 starts and 14 appearances off the bench. He has provided eight goal assists and has been booked 14 times in Jets colours.
