This Friday night will see the Jets make their final appearance in front of their members and supporters at Hunter Stadium this season against Sydney FC. After being narrowly defeated by the Sky Blues last month, the Jets will be full of confidence after their last start win over Melbourne Victory and will look to derail the Sydney’s push towards the Hyundai A-League Premiers Plate.

Here are a few facts leading into Friday’s match that Jets fans may find interesting:

  • Last weekend Edson Montano’s 54th minute goal signified more than simply sealing the Jets’ third win of the season. It was also the 300th goal for the club in the Hyundai A-League. Montano is the club’s leading scorer this season with four goals, and he’s the only player to have appeared in every match this campaign.
  • The Jets will aim to keep Sydney FC striker Shane Smeltz quiet this weekend. Smeltz is the opposition player with the most career goals against the Jets. He has scored 10 goals in his 14 appearances against the Jets, but has failed to score against the Jets in his last two games and hasn’t scored at Hunter Stadium since 2009.
  • Michael Kantarovski’s late cameo against Melbourne Victory last round capped him as the 127th player to appear for the Newcastle Jets in the Hyundai A-League. His debut came over six-and-a-half years after older brother, Ben, made his senior debut for the Club.
  • Finally, first halves in the last four meetings between Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC have been tight, with both teams failing to score. Don’t bet it’ll rain goals in the first 45 on Friday!
