The Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce our competitors for the 2019 E-League competition, including the country’s only professional female EA SPORTS FIFATM player.
Elizabeth ‘N8 Liz’ Varley and Christian ‘Fweshest’ Bartolilo have been signed as the Club’s Xbox One and PS4 competitors respectively, while Bohdan ‘BLfifa’ Ling has been picked up in the E-League draft and will be the substitute.
The trio will look to improve on last year’s effort in the competition, where the Club went out in the quarter-finals of the PS4 division and the elimination finals of the Xbox division.
A-LEAGUE: Ernie's squad for Friday night
The 2019 edition of the E-League will kick off on Thursday 21 February, and will run for nine rounds ahead of a massive finals series set down for May.
On loan from N8 Esports, Elizabeth ‘N8 Liz’ Varley will be the first female to ever appear in the E-League when she makes her debut in the opening round of the competition.
A passionate Newcastle Jets fan already, the Maitland local has been climbing the ranks in recent months and is in training for what’s set to be a tough E-League baptism.
Having been a Jets Member since the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season, the E-League’s only female competitor said she was keen to play for her girlhood club.
“I’m really excited to have a shot at the E-League and to represent the Club that I’ve been a Member of for eight seasons is a fantastic opportunity,” Varley said.
“I was a bit shocked when I got the call-up to the Jets, but that was quickly replaced by excitement and it’ll be great to have a chance to represent the Club and play some FIFA against some quality opposition.
“I’ve got a decent chance at getting some good results. According to the rankings I’m not on the same level as some of the other players, but I’m confident I can get some good results against good players.
“It’s really cool for me to be the only female in the E-League, FIFA is a game that not many females play but I’m keen to show the world what females can do in a male-dominated landscape.”
After making the quarter-finals of the PS4 division with Wellington Phoenix last season, Christian ‘Fweshest’ Bartolilo has made the switch across the ditch.
The talented eSports competitor is regularly in the FUT Champions Rest of the World top 100 on his preferred platform, PS4, and is shaping as a force to be reckoned with in this year’s edition of the E-League.
Beaten by the eventual champion last season, the PS4 expert is confident of stepping it up in his second E-League appearance.
“Obviously I was at Wellington last year but being from Sydney, the Jets are more local, they were keen to get me on, and it’s a new challenge,” Bartolilo said.
“I did well in the E-League last year without doing my best, but I rate myself as one of the best PS4 players in the competition so we’ll see what happens.
“I made it to the quarters last year and lost to the guy who went on to win it. I’ve had that experience in the E-League, it’ll hold me in good stead and I’m confident of going a couple of steps further this time around.”
The Jets will be revealing more about their E-League competitors in the coming weeks, with Round 1 of the competition fast approaching.
