Sydney FC-s marquee signing Brett Emerton comes to Newcastle this week and is looking forward to playing at Ausgrid Stadium, which has had a makeover since he was last in town.

“I-ve played in Newcastle a few times when I was with Sydney Olympic in the National Soccer League,” Emerton told the Newcastle Jets website.

“It-s hard to remember exact details from that long ago but I remember the Stadium was compact and the fans made a lot of noise.

“I am absolutely looking forward to playing in Newcastle this weekend, I-ve been told that the Stadium has been redeveloped and is a great stadium.

“I-ve enjoyed playing at all of the venues around Australia so far and Newcastle is no different.”

The Jets have performed strongly at home all season and Emerton says this home form is their main threat on Saturday night.

“Newcastle is one of those teams that doesn-t have obvious threats but as a team they are very dangerous, especially at home.

“They do have some pace up front with Ryan Griffiths but we have to make sure we defend well as a unit if we want to get anything out of it.”

When Emerton runs out onto Ausgrid Stadium, he will come up against a few old teammates in the Jets squad.

“I-ve played with a few of the Jets at different stages of my career.

“I played with Kasey Wehrman in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in what was a very good team.

“I also played with Ryan Griffiths in the Socceroos team and Nikolai Topor-Stanley was in a few of the camps.

“Franny Jeffers was also a teammate at Blackburn in the EPL, he was a very talented striker who has had a good career and from what I-ve seen in his performances for Newcastle he-s still got that something special.”
