GENERAL MANAGER – FOOTBALL OPERATIONS

The Newcastle Jets Football Club is seeking to place an extremely talented, commercially focused football professional to work with the club in managing its football department. The successful applicant will perform an integral leadership function in enabling the Newcastle Jets Football club meet its strategic and operational goals. The successful applicant will report directly to the CEO of the Tinkler Sports Group (‘TSG-), and will be the Executive Officer of the Jets Football Advisory Board.

The General Manager will ensure that the Club further develops and continues to grow its key objectives of being a Club that is:

• owned by Newcastle, the Hunter and the Northern NSW community.
• strategically aligned with and operationally in tune with Football Northern NSW and other key stakeholder groups
• directly connected to the Football Family
• is family friendly and accessible to all
• provides pathways for all children in the region to aspire to play for the Jets in it-s A-League, National Youth League or W-League teams

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and monitor Football Department strategic and operating plans including budgets
• Develop, oversee and co-ordinate community and school programs that the Jets take into schools, football clubs and the Community.
• Ensure that the Football Department is professionally managed at all times
• Develop and enhance the “Football” culture of excellence at the Jets which translates into winning Championships
• Manage and negotiate all player contracts
• Manage the salary cap in accordance with the Hyundai A-League guidelines
• Provide extensive financial modelling information regarding salary cap obligations and financial impacts for the club both short term and long term
• Facilitate the process of player transfers
• Develop and maintain a world-s best practice sports science, sports medicine injury prevention and rehabilitation programs
• Obtain a deep understanding of the tribunal system and manage the tribunal process
• Develop and manage a positive club culture and manage player welfare related matters
• Provide legal briefs for external counsel as required
• Facilitate excellent working relationship between all club stakeholders including players, football department, club executives and player managers
• Ensure that the Jets “service” and “can do” attitudes are maintained and developed at all times

Essential Selection Criteria:

• Sport & Football Industry Experience
• Proven management experience at senior level

Desired Selection Criteria:

• Excellent communication, negotiation skills and experience.
• The candidate must have excellent analytical skills and be able to understand and quickly adapt to new environments and situations.
• Being proactive is of vital importance as is the ability to actively influence events and deliver positive outcomes.
• Tertiary qualified with at least 4 years of practical experience
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Excellent ability to use Microsoft Office in order to prepare documents and presentations.
• Ability to develop and manage Key Performance Indicators (‘KPI-s-)

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated based on qualifications, skills and experience.
