The action continues this Sunday with yet another major event when the Kangaroos host the Kiwis at Ausgrid Stadium from 4.00pm.
Hoping for the home town trifecta, it-s been a busy week for the Kangaroos, having immersed themselves in the Hunter community. Yesterday, Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater and Aku Uate visited one of the oldest living Kangaroos at a local aged care facility.
The Test trio joined Newcastle Men of League Secretary, Ross Gigg to present Neville ‘Ned- Andrews OAM with a plaque and commemorative pin to recognise his services to Queensland Rugby League. Ned was also presented with a signed team jersey carrying his official Kangaroos playing number.
Meanwhile, this Sunday-s match will also be the final time for supporters to farewell the legendary Darren Lockyer during his last game on home soil.
“It-s really a special game on Sunday,” said Knights CEO, Matt Gidley.
“Not only do our fans get the opportunity to watch Aku make his Australian debut at home, they get to watch a real legend play his final game on Australian soil.”
A big thanks to Destinations NSW for assisting the HSG in making the Netball and Kangaroo Tests accessible for Hunter fans.
And the action doesn-t stop there – while they may not be playing at home this weekend, the Newcastle Jets will take on the Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand at 4.30pm AEDT, and hope to hear Jets Members cheering them on from across the Tasman as they set out to make it two from two.
Finally, the Hunter Sports Group would like to offer congratulations to Danny Buderus and the Leeds Rhinos on their fabulous Super League victory over St Helens last weekend. It was a fairy tale finish for Danny as he makes his way back to Newcastle to begin his NRL comeback in the 2012 season.
