The Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce the signing of attacker, Nick Fitzgerald, on a two-year deal.

The winger joins the Club after departing Western Sydney Wanderers, and will link up with the squad in time for the start of pre-season training on July 1.

Fitzgerald is a two-time Hyundai A-League Championship winner, boasting title wins with Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar throughout his 169 appearances in the league.

The 27-year-old said he’s looking forward to heading north and playing in Jets colours.

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to come and play for Newcastle and I’m really excited to have signed a two-year deal,” Fitzgerald said.

“Ernie [Merrick] is well-known for the attacking style of football he likes to play and I’m confident that’ll only complement the way I play.

“I’ve heard great things about the city of Newcastle and I can’t wait to get stuck into pre-season come July.”

Jets boss, Ernie Merrick said the attacker was a solid addition to his side.

“Nick has been playing in the league for almost ten years and he’ll bring a lot of experience to our squad,” Merrick said.

“He has a lot to offer in the final third and we’re looking forward to seeing just what Nick can do here in Newcastle.

“We’ve got plenty of options in that final third now, and I think the competition for spots will only drive the group on to find that next level.”

Fitzgerald debuted in the Hyundai A-League for the Central Coast Mariners back in 2009, before heading north and spending two seasons with Brisbane Roar – winning the Championship in one of those.

He then made the switch back to the Central Coast Mariners, where he scored eight goals in 82 appearances at the club.

Fitzgerald then moved south to Melbourne City, playing 63 times and appearing in three successive Finals Series before heading to the Wanderers where he played 12 times throughout the 2018/19 season.
