The Newcastle Jets Squad are currently taking a final break from training before the 2011/12 pre-season and A-League season kicks-off. Coach Branko Culina has been happy with the preparation to date, with the team showing good form in two local warm up matches against Weston and Hamilton.

The Jets expect to shortly announce information on their pre-season trial matches. Details are currently being finalised. Members should keep an eye on the Jets website and upcoming emails for more information.

New Brazilian recruit Tiago is expected to arrive and commence training with the squad within the next two weeks. Tiago has been in constant contact with Jets officials and is looking forward to meeting his new teammates and settling into Newcastle.

Australian marquee player Jason Culina continues to impress coaching staff with his dedication and application since joining the Jets. Jason has been working tirelessly with medical staff to recover from his post-season surgery, with an eye to taking the field for the Jets opening match of the season.

Ben Kantarovski has been selected to travel to the USA with the Young Socceroos (Australian U20 Squad) in preparation for the FIFA U20 World Cup being hosted in Columbia at the end of this month. We wish Ben well in his efforts to make the final squad.

The Jets are pleased to welcome back from the U17 FIFA World Cup current youth team player Luke Remington. Luke performed well for the Joeys scoring the goal that guaranteed them qualification for the second round. Who could forget Luke-s post goal celebration, and we hope to see more of that when he represents the Jets Youth team this season.

Congratulations to former Jets W-League player Emily Van Egmond on her outstanding goal for the Matildas. The Matildas have qualified for the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women-s World Cup in Germany. We wish Emily and the Matildas the best of luck for the rest of the tournament.
