Four Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets players have been selected to represent the Young Socceroos at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey later this month.
Josh Brillante, Connor Chapman, Andrew Hoole and Adam Taggart were all named in Paul Okon-s final 21-man squad for the tournament, which gets underway on June 21.
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby congratulated the Jets quartet on their selection and wished them all the best for the tournament.
“They-ve all got an opportunity now to show what they can do on the world stage and I-m sure it will be an experience they will cherish for the rest of their lives,” Middleby said.
“It-s a reward for all the hard work they-ve put in and I-m confident they will represent Australia and the Newcastle Jets with distinction.
“The experience they will get from playing in a World Cup will hold them in good stead when they arrive back in Newcastle ahead of the upcoming A-League season.”
Middleby said the World Cup would give the young Jets players the chance to test themselves against world football-s stars of tomorrow.
“There will be a lot of eyes on this tournament because it showcases the most talented young footballers the world has to offer,” he said.
“For the Jets to have such a strong representation at an event like this is a testament to the long term vision of the Club and an amazing opportunity for the players involved.”
The Young Socceroos will go into camp on Friday in preparation for a friendly match against New Zealand on June 10.
Australia has been drawn in Group C alongside Colombia, El Salvador and the host nation at the World Cup.
They open their campaign against the Colombians at the Huyseyin Avni Aker Stadium in Trabzon on June 22.
All Young Socceroos matches at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013 will be broadcast live and exclusive on SBS TV.
