Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets defender Sam Gallaway will have an arthroscope on his injured left knee on Thursday.

Gallaway sustained a lateral meniscus tear in his knee following a tackle from Corey Gameiro in the Jets- 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium a fortnight ago.

“With it being so close to the end of the season, we attempted to manage Sam-s knee to try and get him through the remaining games,” Newcastle Jets Physiotherapist Rob Dingle explained.

“However, his knee wasn-t responding to the treatment, so an arthroscope was the next course of action.”

Gallaway is expected to be sidelined for between four to six weeks.

The 20-year-old, who was in the midst of enjoying hsi best A-League season to date, said it was extremely disappointing to sustain an injury at such a crucial point of the season.

“It-s pretty disappointing to be injured, especially with so many important games coming up,” Gallaway said.

“I-m just hoping for the best for the boys. Fingers crossed they can make the finals and from there anything can happen.”
