Newcastle Jets defender Craig Goodwin says he is appreciating the intensity and structure of the Jets’ pre-season.
After spending nearly a week at his new Club, Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets defender Craig Goodwin says he is appreciating the intensity and structure of the Jets- pre-season training sessions.
Goodwin said he is confident that the tough pre-season schedule will have him in peak condition when the 2012/13 A-League season starts in October.
“It-s good, I had a bit of time out with injury so it-s good to get back into it,” he said.
“I-ve still got a bit to go to get to where I want to be fitness wise and everything, but it-s looking good early stages.”
The 20-year-old played the majority of least season with the Melbourne Heart National Youth League team, before stamping himself on the A-League towards the back-end of the competition.
However, the talented left-back says he is not interested in only being a bit-part player for the Jets this season.
“I hope to have a very big impact and I think that-s what every player wants to have,” he said.
“Hopefully I can cement a starting position and be a key player for the side.”
Goodwin was one of around dozen Jets first-team players who attended the Jets youth team-s NBN State League top-of-the-table clash with Broadmeadow Magic last weekend.
Goodwin said that kind of off-field camaraderie showed there was a strong Club culture at the Jets that would hold them in good stead for the coming season.
“It was very good,” he said.
“I thought it was also very good to see a lot of the first team players coming out and supporting the younger players as well, so I thought that was fantastic.
“It was a decent standard game, unfortunately they lost, but it was very enjoyable.
“There-s a good vibe about the group, I think everyone feels good about each other and I think the training sessions are going well, so hopefully come the start of the season we-ll be doing well.”
