Ryan Griffiths hopes the Jets Members and supporters will be out in force this weekend.

After Harry Kewell’s first game in Newcastle two week ago, another returning star to the A-League Brett Emerton comes to Newcastle when the Jets host Sydney FC on Saturday night at Ausgrid Stadium.

Since arriving at Sydney FC from the Blackburn Rovers, Emerton has provided a big boost to the team on the field as well as their crowd numbers and Jets striker Ryan Griffiths hopes the Jets Members and supporters will be out in force this weekend when he comes to town.

“He is a fierce competitor with years of experience in the English Premier League and that does not go unnoticed,” Griffiths said.

“The one time we played together for the Socceroos, I passed the ball to him and it wasn-t too good of a ball and he let me know about it so hopefully this weekend I will have a good combat with him.

“It will be good to have him here in Newcastle and it is going to be an entertaining encounter between our two teams.

“Brett attracts crowds and I think a lot of people will be interested in seeing him play this weekend.”

Assistant coach Craig Deans believes it will be a good test for the Jets to come up against a player of Emerton-s caliber.

“Brett has played overseas for almost 15 years and brings a great deal of experience to his team,” Deans explained.

“He is obviously very fit and it will be a good challenge for our boys to play against him on Saturday.

“It is huge for Sydney to have someone like him at their club, his experience and professionalism will have a very positive impact for their players.”
