Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets marquee signing Emile Heskey says he is confident he will “absolutely love” life in Australia and is looking forward to playing for the Jets.

In an exclusive interview with Fox Sports News, Heskey revealed he had spoken to ex-Perth and North Queensland marquee player Robbie Fowler about the prospect of moving down under.

Heskey said the positive feedback he had received about the A-League from Fowler as well as a number of other Australian footballers he has played alongside, helped convince him the move to the Jets would be one he would relish.

“I spoke to Robbie Fowler about it and he absolutely loves it (in Australia) and he told me that I would enjoy myself over there and that was brilliant,” Heskey explained.

“I-ve played with a lot of Aussie lads before, as old as Steve Corica and as recent as Harry Kewell and even Chris Herd who is at Aston Villa.

“I-ve spoken to all of them and they all said I will absolutely love it in Australia, so I-m really looking forward to it.”

Heskey said he was looking forward to settling into Newcastle and sampling Australian life and culture.

“It-s a new country obviously and I-m excited because it is a different climate to what I-m used to in England with the rain and everything, so hopefully it-s a little bit better over there,” he said.

“It-s a new culture and something different for me. I-ve actually got some friends who are over there who I-m sure will show me around and teach me different cultural stuff.”

Heskey arrives in Australia on Friday morning. More details to follow.
