Proud Newcastle Jets defender Jason Hoffman says the team will seek to move on swiftly from their disappointing result at home to Perth Glory on Sunday, believing that dwelling upon or over analysing the outcome will serve no positive purpose in the team’s quest to return to the winner’s list.
Hoffman - a Novocastrian through and through - spoke with local press on Monday morning following the Jets’ recovery session and expressed the team’s collective displeasure at Sunday’s 6-1 defeat at the feet of Kenny Lowe’s charges.
“The way we started I thought that we left off where we were against Wellington the week before,” Hoffman said. “The first 15, 20 [minutes] were great. We had a number of chances, took the lead, but then we switched off and allowed Perth back into the game.”
“They picked us apart just before half time and going into the second half we didn’t recover from losing a man and going 2-1 down.”
“To lose at home again is obviously very disappointing [and] to lose our captain for next week is disappointing.”
“But sometimes it’s just better to realise that it’s not good enough, try to be positive and move on to what’s going to be a tough game away to Adelaide.”
Hoffman, a Mayfield United junior, understands the frustration of the club’s Members and supporters regarding the nature and size of the loss.
“We feel for the fans and we try and represent them with pride,” Hoffman said.
“We have that sense of home here and we don’t want to let them down.”
“It’s understandable that they’re frustrated but I can tell you that no one is more frustrated than the playing group themselves and the coaching staff.”
“We have to try and lift and be positive, and hopefully we can turn it around against Adelaide [this weekend].”
Newcastle Jets play Adelaide United in the city of churches on Sunday.
The Jets have met the Reds twice so far this campaign, once in Adelaide and once in Newcastle. Both games ended level.
