Defender, Ivan Vujica has been rewarded for his strong performances in recent months, signing a new two-year deal with the Newcastle Jets.

Vujica has been a standout in the Jets opening three games of their 2017/18 Hyundai A-League campaign, built off the back of a great pre-season under Jets’ boss, Ernie Merrick.

Vujica, who made his debut for the club in round one of the 2016/17 season said he was happy to continue his football in the Hunter.

“Newcastle is a fantastic place, it’s been great for me both on and off the pitch,” said Vujica.

“We have a strong group of players here, and I’m taking every opportunity to learn from them and continue to improve my game.

“Ernie has been great in giving me a licence to push forward and be part of some attacking play, I love being involved in the front third and help our attackers find the back of the net.

“I’m just really pleased to have begun the season in the starting XI, now it’s about continuing to work hard to make that spot my own.”

Jets’ Coach, Ernie Merrick said that Vujica was improving with every performance.

“Ivan has been thriving under a style of play that allows him to get forward and attack,” said Merrick.

“He’s a quality player, having represented Croatia at U/19 level, but he’s really come into his own over the last six months.

“He’s an impressive young man, a hard worker and a great character with all the attributes you want to see in a fullback – it’s exciting for Ivan and exciting for the club to see him here for the next two years.”
