Jesic to return next season

Striker Marko Jesic will return to the Hyundai A-League next season, while Labinot Haliti will stay on as his replacement.

The Newcastle Jets today confirm that striker Marko Jesic has been ruled out for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season as he recovers from reconstructive surgery on his knee. Fellow striker Labinot Haliti will remain with the squad during this period as an injury replacement player.

Jesic, 20, and Haliti, 24, have both committed their future to the club, with the striker-s recently signing 12-month and 2-year contract extensions respectively.

Club CEO John Tsatsimas this afternoon explained that the move will be beneficial for both players.

“Labi has been in fine form since his return from Europe, which was one of the reasons we were so delighted to secure his services for the next two seasons, and today-s announcement certainly allows him to continue on in that vein for the remainder of this season also.”

“For young Marko, he is now able to dedicate his time to his rehabilitation without being concerned about deadlines and so forth. He will return to the squad next year with our full backing and I-m sure I speak for everyone involved with the club that we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch next season,” Mr. Tsatsimas said.

The Jets will take on intra-state rivals Sydney FC this Sunday, 29 November at the Sydney Football Stadium. The National Youth League match between the two clubs will commence at 2:00pm with their Hyundai A-League counterparts kicking-off their round 16 encounter at 5:00pm.
