Jets and Glory share the points

The Jets produced a stunning fight back, not once, but twice, as they snatched a point late in a pulsating Westfield W-League clash at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Arin Gilliland and Emily Van Egmond starred for the Jets, with Gilliland scoring once, and Van Egmond setting up the equaliser to ensure the points were shared.

The opening exchanges saw plenty of chances as Katie Stengel couldn’t take a advantage of a one-on-one chance with Melissa Maizels and Jenna Kingsley hit the upright after being played in beautifully by van Egmond.

But, it would be Gilliland who would again find the back of the net, following on from her hat-trick against the Brisbane Roar in Round 7.

Van Egmond released a charging Arin Gilliland courtesy of a ball over the top, her run drew Maizels off her line and Gilliland skipped around the Glory custodian to finish with a clinical strike.

The Jets would go to the break up a goal, but when they returned the match developed into an arm wrestle as the Glory continued to probe for an equaliser, and finally found one via Sam Kerr.

Kerr broke free down the right edge and slotted calmly across Brit Eckerstrom who had a strong night between the sticks.

Just minutes later and Kerr was at it again, curling home a finish from inside the box to put the visitors ahead.

However, the Jets wouldn’t lie down and within minutes of conceding the match was back level as Katie Stengel scored her fifth goal of the campaign.

It wasn’t over yet, as Kerr had another reply to put Perth back ahead two minutes later – completing a hat-trick inside 9 minutes.

Just as it seemed the goals had finally dried up the Jets found another level through van Egmond, who curled a perfect cross to the back post which was bundled home by Perth defender Sarah Carroll, and the score line reached an incredible 3-3.

Both sides had another couple of half-chances before full-time but the deadlock wouldn’t be broken as the Glory and Jets shared the points after a frenetic final 20 minutes.
