They have been an iconic part of the Newcastle Jets’ history – the Squadron, the NCL – each have provided an unmatched atmosphere at their peak, despite changes in name and personnel.

Tonight, as the boys prepare to tackle the Western Sydney Wanderers in the Hyundai A-League, the Jets will be gathering a range of supporter groups together to unite under the Bay 1 banner.

They will also be joined by Joel Griffiths, Michael Bridges, Matt Thompson, Warren Spinks, Labinot Haliti, Stuart Musialik, Andy Roberts and Nick Carle.

The former Jets will be taking part in the active support, helping fans to unveil a banner in Bay 1 during the opening 20 minutes of the match.

Jets’ CEO, Lawrie McKinna would also be heading across to the Eastern Grandstand and taking Newcastle Lord Mayor, Nuatali Nelmes with him.

“This is all just about creating unity, creating atmosphere and bringing Bay 1 back to what it used to be,” said McKinna.

“I remember coming here as a coach and the active support was tremendous from Jets fans.

“We wanted to get the club, some former players and the Lord Mayor involved to bring everyone together in a really positive way, and get behind the boys in our last home game before New Year.”

McKinna said that when the call was put out to former players to spend some time in Bay 1, the response was overwhelming.

“A lot of these guys have great memories of Bay 1 from their playing days, they couldn’t wait to take part,” added McKinna.

Anyone is welcome to join fans in Bay 1 for tonight’s game against Western Sydney Wanderers – kick-off 7.50pm.
