The Newcastle Jets made it two wins in the space of three days tonight as they defeated the Sydney Tigers 2-0 at Lambert Park.

Both sides were unable to find the back of the net in a somewhat scrappy first 45 minutes on a damp pitch, with the Jets taking the opportunity to play a number of triallists including Andrea Merenda, Jorge Florentin, Felipe Garcia, and Chinese international Xiao Zhanbo.

It was the visitors that would take the ascendancy 10 minutes into the second stanza when Western Strikers- star, Felipe, expertly finished with a first time strike from 20-yards out on an acute angle.

Jets playmaker Song Jin-Hyung would shine throughout much of the second half, as he demonstrated the skill and technique which has made him a fan favourite at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Florentin, the diminutive Paraguayan striker formerly of La Paz FC in Bolivia then doubled Newcastle-s lead with 20 minutes remaining when he tapped home from close range amid a throng of bodies inside the Tigers- area.

The match ended 2-0, with Head Coach Branko Culina able to get a better look at many of the triallists that have been with the club for the past week.

This Sunday the Jets will be looking to make it three from three when they take on the thus far undefeated Sydney FC at the Sydney Football Stadium. Kick-off for this tantalising pre-season clash will be 2pm.
