Jets Girls Enjoy Preseason Coffs Harbour Escape

Head Coach Wayne O’Sullivan took the entire Newcastle Jets Westfield W-League side to Coffs Harbour

Head Coach Wayne O-Sullivan took the entire Newcastle Jets Westfield W-League side to Coffs Harbour recently for a three day camp in preparation for the Season 3 kickoff.

Entrenched in the ‘Camp Wallaby- facilities at the Pacific Bay Resort at Coffs the girls enjoyed some relaxed training and gym sessions, as well as some field work including community based activity working with young players from the North Coast.

The side took time out of the weekend camp to run a clinic for the North Coast Football State Youth League girls at Pacific Bay Resort on Saturday morning. Jets Head Coach Wayne O-Sullivan ran the session along with assistant coach Peter McGuiness and several of the Jets who gave up their own free time ahead of squad training which followed the clinic.

The session began with a warm up, then several different pass-trap drills which emphasized the need to move in and out of positions to either get free of a defender and receive a pass or to give one. Meanwhile, new US import Alison Lipsher, who has come to the Jets from Boston Breakers, ran a separate session for goalkeepers using the drills which helped develop her into an accomplished player.

The clinic ended with an all-in game featuring State Youth League girls, Jets players and ‘Sully-.

Following the clinic, the Jets took a short break & then commenced their own training session which the North Coast Football girls stayed and watched. It went for a couple of hours before an afternoon break and then a return to the pitch for a friendly match against a North Coast Football selection of 16-17 year olds.
