The Jets are excited about the prospect of Beckham joining the A-League following the success of Heskey and other marquees.
Friday’s news of David Beckham’s interest in a 10-game stint in the A-League is wonderful for the game, but the Newcastle Jets rule themselves out of the race for the star’s signature.
“David Beckham is a huge name not just in world football but in sport in general and it would be a major coup to bring him here to join an already exciting 2012/13 A-League season,” CEO Robbie Middleby said.
“We have seen the impact of Emile Heskey and Alessandro Del Pierro, and David Beckham would further enhance the reputation of the competition should he and a Club come to an arrangement.
“We will be watching as it all unfolds and hope to see David secure a contract in the A-League.”
