November is the month of the moustache and Team Newcastle are jumping on board to help raise vital funds and awareness for prostate cancer and depression in men.
The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember and their men-s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the national depression initiative.
Team Newcastle is determined to make a difference and players from both the Knights and Jets have already started growing their mo’s.
“Movember is a brilliant cause! I don-t think people acknowledge how many men are affected by depression. It has affected many people I know and I-m really proud to be raising awareness and funds for this illness,” Griffiths said.
“There is a $50 fine to anyone in the team who shaves their moustache off before the end of November. I plan to shave mine off on the November 30 so I can donate the $50 straight to the cause.
“Unfortunately I-m not very seasoned in growing facial hair but I have had a head start as I haven-t shaved for the last week. In saying that, I-m sure my younger teammates will show me up, but that is okay, it-s all for a good cause,” he added with a laugh.
Over 3,300 men die of prostate cancer in Australia each year and one in eight men will experience depression in their lifetime. Many of these men do not seek help.
Team Newcastle would like to help change those statistics.
