The Newcastle Jets joined with other Westfield W-League clubs to launch Season 2 and whilst last year-s campaign was led by Matildas stalwart and legend Cheryl Salisbury, this year-s reflected a fresh new team lineup.

With an average age of just 20, Newcastle Jets coach Wayne O-Sullivan was joined at the launch by one of the team-s new young faces in Carlie Ikonomou.

Carlie comes to the Jets after playing Season 1 with Sydney FC and at just 18 years of age, is one of a core group of younger players whose age on paper is deceptive when compared to their sheer ability on the field.

A number of new faces that will make up the Jets starting lineup include Maddy Searl (15), Tara Andrews (15), Bronte Bates (17), Emma Stewart (17) and Caitlyn Jarvie (18), who have each built up a strong foundation of representative honours throughout their short playing histories.

Amongst the players returning from last year-s squad are the likes of Stacey Day, Alison Logue and Vice Captain Amber Neilson, who has taken on the leadership role alongside Hayley Crawford who joins the Jets after playing out the inaugural season with Canberra United and will now captain Newcastle.

Although the side were forced to rebuild without powerhouse players such as Salisbury and 2008 teammate Joey Peters, the 2009 Westfield W-League Newcastle Jets squad is a strong as ever and displays an air of professionalism that has been instilled by Head Coach Wayne O-Sullivan and Assistant Coach Andre Gumprecht.
