The Jets officially launched their 2012/13 season with a launch at Merewether Surfhouse on Friday afternoon.

The Newcastle Jets officially kicked off their 2012/13 season with a corporate launch at Merewether Surf House on Friday, and also announced Jobe Wheelhouse will continue to captain the Jets.

Adding to the excitement of the launch was the news that England International and English Premier League star Emile Heskey will join the Jets for the upcoming season.

During the formalities CEO Robbie Middleby and coach Gary van Egmond spoke to the guests about their anticipation for the season and the high expectations they have for the squad.

A-League CEO Damien De Bohun attended the Launch and shared his thoughts on the upcoming season and what the signing of Heskey means to not only the Club but the entire code.

With a number of new players joining the Jets for the first time this season, Friday-s event was a great way to introduce to players to some of the Club-s biggest supporters.

Swiss defender and Jets newcomer, Dominik Ritter said it was really good for all the sponsors to come together and get to know the players.

“It has been a really nice day and I have enjoyed it,” the 23-year-old said.

“I think it is really important that the players get to meet the people who support the Club.”

Goalkeeper Mark Birighitti also spoke highly of the Launch.

“On a beautiful day like this with a view like this, it has been great,” he said.

“Being new to the Club, there are a lot of faces I haven-t seen before so it is good to be able to meet them all today.”

As part of the formalities of the launch, Egmond announced Wheelhouse would again captain the Club this season.

“Jobe has shown what a good leader he is on and off the field, so today’s announcement is just a formality really but one we have happy to tell all of you here today.”
