The Newcastle Jets took time out from their busy pre-season schedule to lend a helping hand at the Endeavour Industries Football Gala Day at Maitland Indoor Sports Centre last Friday.

Mitch Cooper, Ben Kantarovski, Sam Gallaway and Mark Birighitti all assisted with the Gala Day for people with intellectual disabilities.

The Jets players mingled with fans, signed autographs and posed for photos before presenting each of the day-s participants with their medals and taking part in an exhibition match.

Gallaway said the Jets were pleased to lend a helping hand at the event.

“It was great to see such a big turnout and so many people enjoying themselves,” he said.

“We got a really warm reception when we arrived and hopefully we put some smiles on some faces.

“It was good to mix in with everyone there and I think it shows you how football is a sport that can bring everyone together.”

In total, 11 teams and more than 80 players took part in the Gala Day which featured organisations including Endeavour Industries, Life Without Barriers, Lifestyle Solutions, Castle Personnel, Cessnock High School, Muswellbrook High School, Whitmore, Allambi Youth Services, Mai Wel and Connectability.
