The Newcastle Jets have locked in five pre-season trial matches against local opposition.
The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets will play their first trial match of the pre-season against Zone Premier League side Newcastle University FC at Ulinga Oval next Wednesday.
The match is one of five fixtures the Jets have locked-in against local opposition as their preparations for the 2013/14 A-League season get underway in earnest.
The Jets will play another Zone Premier League side in the form of Plattsburg-Maryland FC on June 26, before making the step-up to NBN State League opposition when they face Lake Macquarie FC a week later.
Newcastle will go up against another NBN State League opponent in Weston Workers Bears FC at Rockwell Automation Park on July 25, before playing their annual clash against an NBN State League Select side on July 31.
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said the Club was looking forward to commencing pre-season matches.
“We-ve started our pre-season with trial matches against local teams in the past and we feel it has been a successful concept,” Middleby said.
“It-s beneficial for the local Clubs and it also helps our squad get some match fitness under their belts in the early part of the pre-season, before we start playing trial games against A-League opposition.
“It-s such a long time in between A-League seasons, so it-s great for the Hunter football community to be able to watch the Jets in action at these trial matches.”
