The Newcastle Jets have named an 18-man squad for Friday night’s Week 21 game against Adelaide United at Hunter Stadium.

The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets have named an 18-man squad for Friday night’s Week 21 game against Adelaide United at Hunter Stadium.

The Jets will again be without captain Jobe Wheelhouse, who missed last weekend’s game against Perth Glory due to a groin strain and was racing the clock to be fit for Friday’s game.

Wheelhouse is confident he will be back for next week’s trip to Melbourne when the Jets face Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.

Also named in the extended squad this week is Ben Kantarovski, Labinot Haliti and James Virgili.

The Jets are hopeful Kantarovski, who has been overseas on Olyroos’ duties and returns on Friday morning, will be available for selection. The coaches will make a decision on the midfielder’s inclusion on game day.

Connor Chapman, after making his debut for the Jets last weekend, keeps his spot in the squad. Chapman came on in the 77th minute to replace Tarek Elrich in Newcastle’s 2-0 loss to the Glory and played in a defensive midfielder role.
