Newcastle Jets coach Gary van Egmond believes his side created enough chances to deserve the three points against Adelaide on Saturday at Coopers Stadium.

“We created a number of chances and they obviously threw everything at us… we kept ourselves pretty solid,” the coach said after the game.

“It was a good performance on the back of two good performances previous to that, so it is pleasing.

“I am so pleased for the players, they have worked awfully hard and deserve all the credit today.

“It is fantastic, to come to Adelaide which we know is difficult to get three-points at the best of times, to get that.”

Following the game, goalkeeper Mark Birighitti hopes the win is something the team can build on.

“Fantastic effort, good stepping stone for the boys… and hopefully we can keep this form for the rest of the season,” Birighitti said.

The Jets return home next weekend and host the Brisbane Roar at Hunter Stadium.
