Tiago Calvano says the Jets are ready to record their first clean sheet of the season against Western Sydney Wanderers tonight.

Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets defender Tiago Calvano says the Jets are ready to record their first clean sheet of the season against Western Sydney Wanderers tonight after a week of hard work on the training paddock.

The Jets have conceded nine goals in their five A-League games so far this season and are yet to hold an opponent scoreless.

As one of the key members of the Jets- defensive line, Tiago said he has taken responsibility for ensuring the Jets- first clean sheet isn-t too far away.

“We know we concede too many goals and for sure we have to do better,” Tiago said.

“We-ve worked hard at training this week and I hope that on Saturday we don-t concede any goals.”

The Brazilian said the Jets have to be wary of Western Sydney-s threat from set-pieces.

“Last game we conceded two goals from set pieces and individual mistakes in other games and that-s cost us some results,” he said.

“I think Josh (Mitchell) and I have to do better with these things.

“(Western Sydney) are very good in the air, they attack the ball and they jump high but we are ready after training and we hope on Saturday we can fix it.”

Tiago said he had been pleased with the Jets- start to the season so far and he hoped to see the team continue its good form against the Wanderers.

“All our teammates have been playing good football, attractive football and getting good results,” he said.

“Unfortunately last game was not so good, but I think we deserved a little bit better and I hope on Saturday we get a result.

“It will be a good game. We-ve done well in training this week and we hope that we can play a good game and get a good result.”
