The Newcastle Jets have today signed attacking midfielder Zenon Caravella for the remainder of this season and the 2013/14 season.

Caravella, who was released from Adelaide United late Tuesday, won Adelaide-s Player of the Year last season.

“We are excited to sign Zenon and believe he will be a great addition to the squad,” CEO Robbie Middleby said.

“It is fantastic to have someone of his experience, reputation and versatility join the Jets.”

Caravella said he is looking forward to linking up with the Jets as they continue their push to secure a spot in the A-League’s top six.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Jets and grateful that Gary (van Egmond) has given me this opportunity during the season,” he said.

“I’ve always found that the Jets have a never-give-up attitude and I’m looking forward to being a part of this club and playing in front of the Newcastle fans.”

Coach Gary van Egmond believes Caravella will be an important addition to the squad.

“We are really happy to acquire Zenon, not only for this season but for next season as well,” van Egmond said.

“Zenon will be a great acquisition because of his technical abilities and the way he works in a game but just as importantly, for his great leadership.”

In 2011, Caravella was was one of 20 players handpicked by National Team coach Holger Osieck to attend the Australian National Football Team Camp.
