The Newcastle Jets were introduced to a modest group of club sponsors and supporters at today-s season launch at Pacific Dunes Golf Club. Despite a bombardment of wet weather, the Hunter-s flagship football side celebrated the onset of the new season with style. With the club experiencing a successful pre-season, with victories over Melbourne Heart, NBN Select XI, Sydney United, and Rockdale City giving, the Hunter-based club moves towards the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season with some momentum.

Combine this with some changes to personnel, which has added much need depth to the squad, and one can appreciate why there is a quietly confident feeling that something special awaits the Newcastle Jets this season.

The event commenced with some entertainment from the Newcastle Jets Bombers squad and was followed by a series of interviews with Newcastle Jets CEO, John Tsatsimas, head coach, Branko Culina and Jets captain Michael Bridges. The squad was then individually introduced to the audience of supporters, corporate sponsors and media and presented with their team jersey.

The solid message coming out of the Jets camp is that it is smooth sailing going into the season. Newcastle Jets CEO, John Tsatsimas stated “it-s easy to run a smooth operation when you have quality around you. The senior players have been amazing, the young players have been very mature, the coaching staff and back office staff have been amazing. You are only as good as the people around you”. He then went on to pay homage to the local support stating “Newcastle Jets is the best franchise in the league because of its regional and tribal feel and we hope that their faith can be repaid. No club can be strong without the support of the community and our corporate partners”.

Newcastle Jets head coach stated “it is a good feeling this season and we are all looking forward to it. We are better off than last year. We have picked up some really good players but more importantly, there are players from last year-s squad who have improved such as Tarek Elrich who is now playing free of injury”.

Newcastle Jets captain stated “last season, everyone knows we ran out of numbers towards the end. This season we have boys with different attributes who can spice things up. All in all we have a fantastic squad, we have worked on individual jobs as a defending unit from the front right through to the back and we are enjoying it.

Perhaps Branko Culina-s words sum up the mood at the Newcastle Jets when he passionately stated to the audience “I want you know that you do have a very good team and you should be proud of that, you have a damn good side”.
