The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets progressed through to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Soccer Sixes on Saturday.

Newcastle finished the group stage of the six-a-side competition undefeated, winning all three of their matches on the opening day of the tournament.

The Jets opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over the tournament hosts, Singapore Cricket Club. Ben Kantarovski-s goal proved to be the difference in a tight affair.

The Jets backed-up their solid first-up performance with a 5-1 win over the KL Kings from Malaysia in game two. Taylor Regan, Ruben Zadkovich, Sam Gallaway, Mitchell Oxborrow and James Brown all found the back of the net in the comprehensive victory.

Despite their place in the quarterfinals already being secured, the Jets did not take their foot off the pedal in their final group match, defeating the H-TWO-O Dream Team 8-0.

Oxborrow continued his fine form in front of goal, banging in a hat-trick, while James Virgili netted a brace. Brown, Zadkovich and new signing Joey Gibbs all scored once in the rout.

The result meant the Jets finished on top of Group B with nine points and a goal difference of plus 13. They will now face Group C runners-up Hong Kong FC A in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

Prior to the commencement of the tournament Jets head coach Gary van Egmond attended a press conference to launch the event.

Jets players Ruben Zadkovich, Mark Birighitti and James Brown also assisted with a coaching clinic for young footballers in Singapore.
