Each Wednesday afternoon the Lake Macquarie City Football Club holds a special training session for Footballers with Intellectual Disabilities.

These sessions involve players of all ages, many of whom were lucky enough to be selected for the recent Asia Pacific Special Olympic Games hosted in Newcastle.

The Jets were invited to attend one of these training sessions and Josh Mitchell and Mark Birighitti headed out to Macquarie Field, Speers Point to find out what goes on.

“What an inspiring team to play with,” Mitchell said.

“There’s a fair bit of skill here and I was certainly put through my paces.”

Josh participated in the training session and a game, and both players signed hats and posed for photographs with all the attendees.

The Newcastle Jets are looking forward to hosting the Footballers with Intellectual Disabilities team at an upcoming game and the C, thank them for the opportunity to attend one of their training sessions.
