October is Breast Cancer Awareness month the Jets are encouraging their Members and supporters to wear pink on Saturday to show their support for the cause.

The Newcastle Jets Women are proud to support the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation and the national Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation is a Newcastle (Hunter) based and founded non-profit organisation, which raises much needed funds to provide information and support for women and men diagnosed with, or being treated for breast cancer in the Hunter, and for their families.

Members and supporters can support the cause by purchasing items on the day or contacting Northern NSW Football for further information.

The Jets return home to Newcastle in Round 2 after a 3-3 draw against Sydney FC in Round 1.

Canberra United will travel to Wanderers Oval, Broadmeadow after a 0-0 draw against Brisbane Roar at their home ground last weekend.

Canberra United was crowned champions of the Westfield W-League in Season 4 after defeating Brisbane Roar 3-2 in the Grand Final.

Last season saw the Jets finish the season in fifth position with 12 points next to their name.

Throughout Season 4 the Jets and Canberra battled it out on the pitch twice with Canberra taking home the three points on both occasions.

They first met on the pitch in Round 5 at Canberra-s home ground of McKellar Park on the 19th of November.

Canberra gained the upper hand early with Sally Shipard scoring the first goal in the 29th minute. Michelle Heyman scored Canberra-s second goal in the 64th minute to put her team two goals ahead.

Gema Simon of Newcastle found the back of the net for the Jets in the 77th minute; however Heyman scored her second goal for the match in the 80th minute to end the game at 3-1.

The second game for the season was held on the 18th of December at Adamstown Oval, Newcastle.

Again Canberra showed their dominance in the competition with Taryn Hemmings and Michelle Heyman getting on the scoreboard for the traveling team.

Rhali Dobson of the Jets also found the back of the net, but they were unable to equalise the score line.

Amongst Canberra-s lineup for the match against the Jets, is ex-Jets players Sammie Wood who played for Newcastle in the first Westfield W-League season in 2008/09 and also Ariane Hingst who signed with Canberra after playing with the Jets last season.

With both clubs returning to the Westfield W-League and the Jets hosting their first home match for the season, the girls will be looking for a win in front of a home crowd.
