The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets wrapped up their 2012/13 season with the Club-s annual Awards Night on Tuesday evening.

Players, coaches, Club staff and sponsors attended the event at the picturesque Merewether Surfhouse where the Club-s National Youth League, W-League and A-League Players of the Year were announced.

The three finalists for the A-League Player of the Year award included marquee striker Emile Heskey, captain Ruben Zadkovich and goalkeeper Mark Birighitti.

Birighitti was presented with the accolade after a stellar 2012/13 campaign. The 21-year-old shot-stopper said it was a privilege to win the Jets- Player of the Year award in his first season at the Club.

“To win such a prestigious award is a real honour,” Birighitti said.

“I have to thank my teammates, Gary, all the coaching staff and everyone involved at the Newcastle Jets for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to represent this great club.”

Andrew Hoole was named the National Youth League Player of the Year for the second season running, while Hannah Brewer was awarded W-League Player of the Year.

The Club also acknowledged its A-League debutants and those who represented Australia on the international stage throughout the season.

While the focus of the evening was on the season just gone, Jets captain Ruben Zadkoivch said he couldn-t help but think ahead to the Jets prospects for the upcoming 2013/14 campaign.

“Some of the young players that we gave some time to this year really stepped up and they-ll take a lot out of that,” Zadkovich said.

“For me, I-m already looking forward to next season.

“I just hope we can recruit a few quality players, keep the good ones that we-ve got and keep most of these young boys together because it we do that, I think we can really build for something next year.”
