Jets youngsters seek Glory at home

The Newcastle Jets Youth Team are set to take on the fourth-placed Perth Glory Youth Team this Saturday, 17 January at Adamstown Oval.

The Newcastle Jets Youth Team are set to take on the fourth-placed Perth Glory Youth Team this Saturday, 17 January at Adamstown Oval.

The young Jets are looking to climb from the bottom of the National Youth League (NYL) ladder in what is scheduled as the second of three stand alone home games for Newcastle. The final home game to be played out of Adamstown will be in Round 20 against NSW rivals Sydney FC next month.

Perth will be seeking redemption after going down to an in-form Melbourne Victory side 2-0 last weekend, and the West Australians will no doubt still have one eye on a top-two finish.

Jets- Coach Craig Deans believes Saturday-s clash will be a tightly fought contest between the two sides, as it was when they met in Round 7 earlier this season.

“I think Perth are a good team and they play a good brand of football, and they-re probably in a fairly similar situation to us in that a few of their boys have moved on to the senior squad.”

“Last time we played them we played quite well, and there was only the one goal difference in that game despite our side going down to ten men. So I-m expecting a similar tussle and the result will depend on who best takes their chances,” he said.

Deans- side could be without the services of up to four regular NYL players, with Jesse Pinto, Jarrad Ross, Brodie Mooy, and captain Taylor Regan all named in an extended senior team squad for their clash with the Glory on Sunday at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

The team has, however, been bolstered by the addition of youngsters Dylan Murphy, Harry Maguire, Matthew Comerford, and Patrick Wheeler, all of whom recently joined the Jets from the NSW Institute of Sport.

“This week we have an extremely young side, so we-ll be concentrating on the performance, and also we-ll be building toward next season with our boys.”

“In the last thirty minutes last week the young boys did fairly well, so we-ll hope to grow from that and use some of the things learned in that period in this Saturday-s game. With the current age of our team it-s very important that they take something out of each match” Deans added.
